Kundalini awakening and nonduality illustrated through a rising serpent along the spine, the untangling of the knot of individuality, morning Hatha Yoga and daytime nondual Karmayoga.

Kundalini Awakening and Nonduality: The Two-Way Path to Spiritual Transformation

The Untying of the Mental Knot of Individuality

An interesting connection appears between the dissolution of individuality through scientific nondual philosophy and the rising of Kundalini energy. During deep contemplation, the mental knot of individual identity seems to loosen in the brain, as if a tightly coiled rope were gradually opening and becoming straight. With the emergence of nondual understanding, the mind seems to become free from its previous contraction around individual identity.

At the same time, a corresponding sensation may arise from the base of the spine and move upwards along the back, resembling the uncoiling of the traditional Kundalini serpent. As the sensation reaches the brain, it seems to support or intensify the untying of the mental knot. Sometimes, a few strong breaths also arise, resembling the hissing of a Naga or serpent.

Kundalini and Nonduality: Two Directions of the Same Transformation

This observation suggests that the relationship between Kundalini and nondual awareness may work in two directions. When nondual understanding develops through philosophical contemplation, the mental knot of individuality may loosen first, while the corresponding Kundalini movement is experienced as rising from the base towards the brain.

The reverse approach may also be possible. Through Hatha Yoga, bodily postures and breathing practices, the upward movement of Kundalini can be encouraged first. As this movement reaches the brain, it may support the loosening of mental conditioning and the sense of individual identity. Thus, the transformation may begin either through the mind or through the body, with both approaches potentially supporting each other.

Morning Hatha Yoga and Daytime Nondual Karmayoga

This understanding offers a practical way to maintain continuity in spiritual progress despite the demands of worldly life. During peaceful morning hours, dedicated Hatha Yoga and Kundalini-oriented practices can be performed. This practice seems to establish a favourable inner alignment that may support awareness throughout the day and make it easier to maintain a nondual attitude.

During busy working hours, when there is little opportunity for dedicated Hatha Yoga, the same spiritual direction can be maintained through nondual awareness in everyday activities. Instead of becoming entangled in individual identity, expectations and attachment to results, one performs necessary duties with awareness and detachment.

The morning practice may therefore support nondual awareness during daytime work, while the practice of nondual awareness during work may prepare the mind for deeper meditation the following morning. Both approaches can potentially reinforce and amplify each other.

Nonduality Is Karmayoga in Action

There is a further philosophical connection. Where nonduality is genuinely understood and maintained, Karmayoga is no longer a separate spiritual discipline. It becomes the natural expression of nondual awareness through action. As psychological identification with the individual doer becomes weaker, actions can be performed with less egoistic attachment and possessiveness.

Nonduality provides the inner understanding, while Karmayoga expresses that understanding in everyday life. Hatha Yoga and Kundalini practice can support its experiential deepening.

This leads to a simple but significant possibility: spiritual progress need not stop when circumstances do not permit formal meditation or yoga. During peaceful hours, one can approach transformation through Hatha Yoga; during active worldly life, one can continue through nondual Karmayoga. The two approaches need not compete for time. They can become complementary parts of one continuous spiritual journey.

The relationship described here is an experiential and philosophical hypothesis rather than an established physiological mechanism, but it offers an interesting direction for further exploration in Kundalini science and nondual philosophy.
